About the archive
The Southern Railways Archive is dedicated to conserving the history of the railways of Southern England, covering the pre-grouping, grouping, nationalised and privatised eras.
The Archive holds more than 150,000 photographs and 15,000 documents, including personal memoirs, correspondence, signal box diagrams, public and working timetables, special traffic notices, locomotive and carriage drawings, and an ever-expanding library of books and articles.
