plans & maps archive

This section includes over 1,000 drawings covering track plans, station building plans and system maps. The collection is not comprehensive as some areas are covered better than others. Any additions by donation are always welcome. The largest single route covered is the Hayling Island branch, with around 100 drawings.

We hold a collection of Carriage and Wagon drawings, many from Eastleigh Carriage Works, and drawings of over 200 Pullman Cars, many of which ran on the Southern Region. The NRM have donated correspondence and drawings of the Bulleid electric and diesel locomotives.

Another section is a collection of 2,500 Ordnance Survey maps which covers the whole of the Southern Railway system in fine detail, ideal reference for modellers and historians.

Subject to funding, we aim to install a large format scanner in the Archive so that we can make our collection of plans more widely available.
